Outside of Sacramento (or King faithful), there aren’t a lot of eyeballs on the Kings – especially nationally. Are there some well informed scribes who pay attention to the Kings? Most certainly, but for the most part the Kings have been a forgotten team to the national media.

That’s soon to change as is the national perception around Sacramento Kings point guard Isaiah Thomas, who recently sat down with Hoopsworld’s Alex Kennedy where he professed he could be one of the best point guards in the NBA:

When given the opportunity, I can turn some heads and be one of the top point guards in the NBA,” Thomas said. “That’s just the confidence that I have in myself and because of all the hard work I put in each and every morning, each and every night and everything else. I feel like I can have a breakout year, but with the NBA it’s all about opportunity. If given that opportunity, a lot of people can play at a high level. I’m going to keep working and hopefully show the world what I’m all about.

Hard to disagree with the former Mr. Irrelevant, who was the final selection in the 2011 NBA Draft.

Isiah Thomas

New head coach Mike Malone has stressed that Thomas, who has had to be more of a scorer in the past, improve his ball movement – something he shouldn’t have any issue doing, especially now with a more traditional (and structured) offense being put in place.

Thomas also praised rookie Ben McLemore, who he says will make his job a lot easier:

“He’s going to make my job a lot easier,” Thomas said of McLemore. “We’ve been working out the last couple of weeks, scrimmaging with ourselves. His catch-and-shoot game is unbelievable, those are going to be easy assists right there. If I’m looking for assists, I can just go to him. He’s going to be a great player.

October can’t get here soon enough.
