Rory McIlroy has committed to the 2025 Travelers Championship, the tournament announced Wednesday. The world’s No. 2 ranked player and four-time major champion will make his sixth start in the Connecticut event this summer.
McIlroy will join a star-studded field in Cromwell, with the rest of the top five ranked players in the world having already committed. No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and No. 3 Xander Schauffele, both former Travelers winners, and Nos. 4 and 5, Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Aberg, will all take the course at TPC River Highlands. The tournament, which runs from June 19-22, is once again a Signature Event on tour, with a higher purse ($20 million) and $3.6 million going to the winner.
The 35-year-old McIlroy is a four-time major winner and has won 28 times on the PGA Tour. He’s won two events this season– at The Players Championship and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. McIlroy’s best finish at Travelers is a tie for seventh in 2023.
“It’s great for our fans to have a player of Rory’s caliber committing to this year’s Travelers Championship,” Travelers Executive Vice President Andy Bessette said in a statement. “His career accomplishments speak for themselves, he’s a Hall of Fame talent. But he’s also a Hall of Fame person, passionate about the game and supportive of our model of benefiting charities. He’s been a great partner, and Rory is truly one of a kind.”
