Lotto Winner Cliff Little’s New Thrill: Horse Racing and Magic Millions Hope Cifrado

Cliff Little, a former disability worker from Cairns, found a new lease on life after winning $40 million in a lotto with a ticket that cost him a mere $26. In 2019, this victory set him on a path less trodden, as he chose to invest in racehorses, one of which is Cifrado, a leading contender in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.

From Lotto Win to Horse Racing

Little’s interest in racehorses isn’t drawn by the glamour attached to the sport, but rather the thrill and strategy. His partnership with Toowoomba trainer Rex Lipp, despite never having met in person, is based on trust and respect for Lipp’s decisions. Cifrado, purchased for $320,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, has already won over $1 million in prize money from 12 starts under Lipp’s guidance.

Cifrado, the Hopeful Contender

Cifrado, a son of Encryption, is set to compete in the $3 million Magic Millions 3yo Guineas. After a victorious run at the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate, the racehorse has high expectations. Lipp and Little are hopeful for a good barrier draw, allowing Cifrado to settle comfortably midfield.

A Different Approach to Horse Racing

Little’s laid-back approach to owning racehorses is unique. He often watches the races from the comfort of his home with a beer in hand, instead of being physically present at the events. In addition to Cifrado, Little owns Smart Image, another racehorse set to compete on the same day. The thrill of watching a horse win is something Little finds joy in, expressing admiration for the trainers and jockeys who strategize and prepare for each race.
